GABC Launches Certification Program for Aboriginal-Owned Businesses

Jun 22, 2023 | GABC News

Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber Inc (GABC) is pleased to announce the launch of its new certification program specifically designed for Aboriginal-owned businesses. The program aims to provide Aboriginal businesses with the necessary tools and resources to grow their businesses while preserving their unique cultures and traditions, with a focus on businesses that are owned by Traditional Owner groups and locally based within the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Aboriginal-owned businesses have a significant impact on their local economies and communities, but often face unique challenges such as limited access to capital, infrastructure, and business networks. Certification by GABC will not only provide businesses with a competitive edge but will also help them gain access to new markets, contracts, and funding opportunities.  GABC Certification will also provide assurance to procurement teams that the Aboriginal business is providing social return for communities within the region.

The certification program is open to Aboriginal-owned businesses in all industries and sectors. To be eligible, businesses must be at least 51% Aboriginal-owned and operated, and have been in operation for at least one year. The certification process includes a comprehensive review of the business’s ownership structure, management, financials, and adherence to best practices in the industry.  Upon approval, businesses will receive a members logo, for use on all corporate material, websites and marketing campaigns.

“We are proud to launch this certification program for Aboriginal-owned businesses,” said Rowena Leslie, Chair of GABC. “Our goal is to empower regionally based Aboriginal businesses by providing them with the recognition and support they need to succeed in today’s competitive business environment.”

GABC has a strong commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the business world. The organisation has certified its current members and its certifications are recognised by major corporations, government agencies, and procurement offices.
