The Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber (GABC) has successfully held its first board meeting of the year at the offices of their Foundation Partner, Mineral Resources (MinRes), in Osborne Park on 20 March 2024. Led by interim general managers Jade Malanczak and Claire Bateman of Wander Consulting, the meeting laid the groundwork for the Chamber’s activities and goals for the coming year.

The session covered a range of topics, including a board induction, updates on current operational programs, key events, corporate partnerships, and a comprehensive review of the budget. A major highlight was welcoming Almetra Bethlehem as the new General Manager of GABC.

With 16 years of experience in the government sector, Almetra is known for her work in economic and community development, particularly in the Goldfields, having worked and lived in the Shires of Wiluna and Menzies, as well as the regional centre of Kalgoorlie. She says, “I am eager to leverage my expertise and networks to amplify the voices of Aboriginal businesses, forge stronger relationships, and grow the local Aboriginal economy in the Goldfields.”

The GABC board comprises Rowena Leslie as Chair, Judd Harris as Vice Chair, Ryan Gordon as Treasurer, Katrina Stubbs as Secretary, with Julie Dabb-Walker, Brett Lewis, and Terry Gordon serving as Board Members. Together, they are committed to advancing the interests of the Aboriginal business community in the Goldfields.

As we move forward, the Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber remains focused on empowering Aboriginal businesses through collaboration, capacity building, support, and advocacy, under the capable leadership of Almetra Bethlehem and a dedicated board. We look forward to a year of growth, achievement, and strong partnerships that will continue to drive economic outcomes for our members.
