The Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chamber (GABC) is proud to announce the launch of the next phase of its transformative Stronger Business Program, alongside the appointment of Shaun Atkinson as the new Stronger Business Coordinator. This initiative marks a significant milestone in GABC’s commitment to advancing and empowering Aboriginal businesses in the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Kicking off again in April 2024, the 24-month Stronger Business program is designed to sustainably uplift local Aboriginal businesses by addressing industry-identified challenges and emphasising economic participation. The recent completion of a successful 12-month iteration, supported by partners BHP and Northern Star Resources, sets the stage for an even more impactful program.

Shaun Atkinson brings over a decade of experience in the region to his new role, combining an intimate understanding of local business challenges with a proven track record of providing support to entrepreneurs. Shaun’s approachable nature and dedication to fostering economic empowerment and success for Aboriginal businesses align perfectly with the program’s objectives.

The Stronger Business Program features a comprehensive range of workshops, networking breakfasts with key industry players, and flagship events like the Stronger Business Expo. These are strategically designed to provide ongoing support, education, and opportunities for Aboriginal businesses. Highlights include:

  • Capacity Building Workshops: Monthly events covering critical business skills and knowledge, from branding to financial management to joint ventures, designed to bolster the operational and strategic capabilities of Aboriginal enterprises.
  • Procurement Pipeline Breakfasts: Quarterly networking opportunities that offer direct insights into upcoming procurement opportunities with major partners BHP and Northern Star Resources, facilitating a proactive business environment for local Aboriginal enterprises.
  • Key Annual Workshops: Including exclusive luncheons with renowned speakers like Scott Pape, the Barefoot Investor, offering valuable financial management insights and networking opportunities.
  • Stronger Business Expo: A vibrant marketplace showcasing Aboriginal businesses, industry partners, and service providers from across Western Australia, as part of the GABC’s Yuwa Conference on 18 October 2024.

Shaun is eager to begin this journey, stating, “I am excited to contribute to such a vital program that not only supports the immediate growth of member businesses but also lays the foundation for long-term prosperity in our community.”
